Walking is fundamental to healthier cities, but people need places that make everyday movement easy and appealing. Saluura helps identify how neighbourhoods can be designed to encourage walking, activity and better health outcomes.

7,000 steps a day may be one of the most important wellness targets in the built environment.

A major 2025 meta-analysis published in The Lancet Public Health, reviewing 57 studies across multiple countries, found that around 5,000-7,000 daily steps represents a key threshold for health benefits.

Compared with 2,000 steps per day, 7,000 daily steps were associated with a 47% lower risk of all-cause mortality and a 25% lower risk of cardiovascular disease.

The challenge is that people do not achieve those steps through motivation alone.

They achieve them when places make walking easy, attractive and part of everyday life.

This is what Saluura is created to deliver.

Saluura evaluates how effectively neighbourhoods, BID areas, estates and regeneration projects support physical activity through walkability, active travel infrastructure, access to parks and green space, local services, recreation facilities and the wider 800-metre walkable catchment people use every day.

More importantly, it identifies practical interventions that can increase walking opportunities and improve wellness outcomes, helping developers, investors and public sector organisations design places that support healthier lives.

The future of public health depend places shaping wellness.
